Queer as Folk: The Complete First Season takes place in Pittsburgh, a blue collar city where the story revolves around a diverse group of gay and lesbian friends.
Brian [Gale Harold] is gay. He's rich, arrogant, self-absorbed and easy on the eyes who loves sleeping with every cute guy he meets. Michael [Hal Sparks] is Brian's best friend and has always been secretly in love with Brian. Justin [Randy Harrison ] is still in high school and totally adorable. He falls hard for Brian only to have his heart broken, Brian only wants him as a "fuck buddy".
Lindsay [Thea Gill] is the mother of Brian's son by artificial insemination. She's a stay-at-home mother, dedicated to her child and to her lover, Melanie [Michelle Clunie]. Melanie is a Jewish lawyer, a combative soft butch.
Ted [Scott Lowell] is the average-looking undersexed accountant who's in search of love. Emmett [Peter Paige] is his flamboyant best friend who loves to party and help Ted stay out of trouble. Debbie [Sharon Gless] is Michael's mom and the waitress at their favourite diner who supports her gay son and all his friends.
Queer as Folk: First Season quickly became a big a hit in North America and was actually filmed in Toronto, Canada.
