 Lynn Phillips is an Out Canadian musician. Lynn Phillips vocal stylings hold strong on an impressive 3-octave range with songs covering everything from: hypocrisy, democracy, love, friendship to mutual aid and a wee bit of anarchy! Add a killer rhythm section with Oriana Barbato on bass guitar and Caterina Marchese on drums. Then spice it up with funkified trombone melodies from John Jowett and you'll definitely be moved! Lynn Phillips band, Random Order has been a long standing staple of Canadian Reggae/Ska/Pop music for two decades. Recently they have been touring the US, Canada, Europe, South America and Japan, making new fans across the globe. Random Order have opened for Patti LaBelle, Judy Mowatt (Bob Marley) Ari Up (The Slits), Sister Carol, Salt-n-Pepa and headlined many shows and festivals. Projects that Lynn Phillips have done outside of Random Order are rare by choice. In March 2011 I recorded a song for the Macau Chinese Opera - Hi Day Bye and in 1999/2000 I wrote, performed and toured with the Taste This troupe for six weeks and a Mayworks show in 2001 with Anna Cameilleri (Taste This). I caught up with Lynn on facebook to ask what's his fav LGTB movie and more. 
Notstraight: What was the first LGTB movie you watched?Lynn Phillips: Emmanuelle Notstraight: What is your favorite genre for movies? Lynn Phillips: Horror, sci-fi Notstraight: What is your favorite LGTB movie? Lynn Phillips: Boys Don't Cry, But I'm a Cheerleader Notstraight: What is your favorite Hetrosexual movie? Lynn Phillips: Europa Europa Notstraight: What past Pride event or experience is most memorable for you? Lynn Phillips: Marching in the inaugural Trans Pride parade (2009) holding the banner for Trans Rights Now. Notstraight: If you could have a luncheon with any two people (real of fictitious/ from any time period, dead or alive), which two people would you choose and Why? Lynn Phillips: 1. Mae West, there is not now nor ever was anyone like her. She was a witty controversial, clever and seductive comedienne, actress, writer and singer. All things I admire. 2. Amy Winehouse, she was well ahead of her time, yet so influenced by the jazz/blues/Motown era. She had an incredible talent and created music that although drew upon older traditions was very palatable for mainstream audience. I also share these influences and create hybrid music. She also had a sense of humour and her songwriting was very clever and raw. Notstraight: Which is your favorite time of the day? Are you a morning person or a night person? Lynn Phillips: Night - aren't all musicians night people? Notstraight: What's your favorite song/artist of the moment? Lynn Phillips: Cupid, a Sam Cooke song that was covered by Amy Winehouse. I know it's not a "song of the moment" although I do think that Amy Winehouse is an artist of the moment in more ways than one. Notstraight: What's your favorite thing to do on a Sunday afternoon? Lynn Phillips: Play music, work on my music and watch music videos Notstraight: Are you a cat or a dog lover? Lynn Phillips: I like dogs, cats, squirrels, gold fish Notstraight: Do you have a pet/s? Lynn Phillips: I do not currently have any pets. I am allergic to cats and dogs and I travel too much to be able to take care of any other types. Notstraight: Do you like to sing in the shower? Lynn Phillips: Nope Notstraight: What was your first tattoo or piercing and where is it? What does it stand for? Lynn Phillips: My one and only tattoo I did myself when I was 15. It is on my wrist and represents my gender. Notstraight: What was the first film/play you acted in? Lynn Phillips: Grade two I played a bunny rabbit because during the auditions it was discovered that I had the necessary talent of being able to wriggle my nose in more than one directon! Notstraight: Do you like to sing karaoke? Lynn Phillips: Only with my friends in Japan Notstraight: Would you rather have the power to be invisible or the power to read minds? Lynn Phillips: I can already read minds so I guess I'd like to be invisible. Notstraight: Do you like black and white movies? Why or why not? Lynn Phillips: I like black and white movies. Some of the best vampire and horror films were in the era of black and white. I love film noir, Crime Fiction really sets the tone/mood. I also like European film and film noir has it's roots in German expressionism. Notstraight: Do you have some coming out words of wisdom? Lynn Phillips: Never take unsolicited advice. Find a mentor.
