I caught up with Nicole on facebook to ask her what's her fav LGTB movie and more.
Notstraight: What was the first LGTB movie you watched? Nicole Conn: "Desert Hearts" which made me know that I wanted to be a filmmaker and that's when I made "Claire of the Moon."
Notstraight: What is your favorite genre for movies? Nicole Conn: I love beautifully crafted films in any genre - but I'm also a huge fan of European cinema where tiny moments that don't drive the film forward and simply show a slice of life is part of their landscape. American films are too formulaic... Love adult dramatic pieces and Romance is not a dirty word in my book!
Notstraight: What is your favorite LGTB movie? Nicole Conn: Besides "Elena Undone?" (just kidding) Probably a tie between "Entres Nous" and "Fire"
Notstraight: What is your favorite Hetrosexual movie? Nicole Conn: "Gone With the Wind" -- what can I say - old die-hard romantic.
Notstraight: If you could have a luncheon with any two people (real of fictitious/ from any time period, dead or alive), which two people would you choose? Nicole Conn: Hilary Clinton and Clark Gable
Notstraight: Which is your favorite time of the day, are you a morning person or a night person? Nicole Conn: I used to be an extreme early morning person, but because of my son's medical challenges and having to spend so much time with him when nurses don't show up have turned into a late night person
Notstraight: What's your favorite song/artist of the moment? Nicole Conn: Love Fergie, anything she does - and love "I've Got a Feeling"
Notstraight: What's your favorite thing to do on a Sunday afternoon? Nicole Conn: In real life? Spend time with kids - in my dream land? Curl up with a thick torpid novel by a Christmas tree with snow falling outside.
Notstraight: Are you a cat or a dog lover? Nicole Conn: Dog
Notstraight: Do you have a pet/s? Nicole Conn: My daughter has a Cavalier King
Notstraight: Do you like to sing in the shower? Nicole Conn: Yes, but nobody else is particularly fond of my singing in the shower!
Notstraight: What was your first tattoo or piercing and where is it? What does it stand for? Nicole Conn: It's on the top area of my left breast, it says "Crit" by a rose. What does it stand for? The name of my cat who kept me alive during my bad drinking days.
Notstraight: What was the first film/play you acted in? Nicole Conn: "Claire of the Moon" was my directorial feature.
Notstraight: Do you like to sing karaoke? Nicole Conn: Not so much.
Notstraight: Would you rather have the power to be invisible or the power to read minds? Nicole Conn: Ohhh...def read minds...the fodder I'd gather for books and movies!
Notstraight: Do you like black and white movies? Why or why not? Nicole Conn: I'm a black and white movie FREAK - torture my kids with them so they have some understanding of what the most exquisite filmmaking was about. Black and white film evokes feelings like no other kind of film. I'd actually like to film my "lesbian Wuthering Heights" in black and white. Hate that kids today have no clue about all those great films, "All About Eve," "The Enchanted Cottage" Any/everything with Clark Gable, Carole Lombard, Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, Cary Grant -- ohhh I could go on and on...
Notstraight: Thanks Nicole for taking the time to answer these quick questions.
