I caught up with Angie on facebook to ask her what's her fav LGTB movie and more.
Notstraight: What was the first LGTB movie you watched? Angie Umbac: I think the first movie I watched that dealt with an LGTB issue is "Philadelphia" which was on AIDS, and I watched it because of its law and human rights angle.
Notstraight: What is your favorite genre for movies? Angie Umbac: Action/Sci Fi movies with a lot of effects preferably where no one gets killed, and where at the end good triumphs over evil. (Hehehe... Yeah, I am a very tense person and I do not like surprises. I did not watch Braveheart because I was told he dies in the end.)
Notstraight: What is your favorite LGTB movie? Angie Umbac: If These Walls Could Talk 2. First positive one I came across.
Notstraight: What is your favorite Hetrosexual movie? Angie Umbac: Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Had a huge crush on the elf prince Legolas.
Notstraight: What past Pride event or experience is most memorable for you? Angie Umbac: Let me name two: MCC Toronto pre-Pride Mass and meeting the PFLAG moms and dads for the first time at the IGM event. Because I cried both times; my most vulnerable moments. I guess family and religion are the weakest chinks in my armor, and the biggest challenges in my advocacy.
Notstraight: If you could have a luncheon with any two people (real of fictitious/ from any time period, dead or alive) Which two people would you choose and why? Angie Umbac: Hmm, am thinking who would have the best table manners and are the best conversationalists; dont want them ruining my appetite. Let me also choose those with no cellphones. Hehehe. Joan of Arc (I'd want to know what goes on in her mind when she is alone; who she confides in, and was she ever in love), and Sun Tzu (how he deals with frustration and do people always listen to him, and what does he do for fun when he isnt writing the Art of War).
Notstraight: Which is your favorite time of the day? Are you a morning person or a night person? Angie Umbac: Morning, because that is when I get some downtime.
Notstraight: What's your favorite song/artist of the moment? Angie Umbac: Closing Time by Semisonic which we sing at the end of every karaoke session. Love the lyrics: "Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end."
Notstraight: Are you a cat or a dog lover? Angie Umbac: Dog person, most definitely. :-)
Notstraight: Do you have a pet/s? Angie Umbac: None as of the moment.
Notstraight: Do you like to sing in the shower? Angie Umbac: No
Notstraight: What was the first film/play you acted in? Angie Umbac: I only have ear piercing -- standard for little girls. I do not have tattoos or other body piercings because I am a blood donor. AB+. I donate for a children's hospital, and everytime, I get asked about my sexual practices. I squirm for a good cause.
Notstraight: Do you like to sing karaoke? Angie Umbac: Of course; I am Filipino. :-)
Notstraight: Would you rather have the power to be invisible or the power to read minds? Angie Umbac: Be invisible. I like being anonymous.
Notstraight: Do you have some coming out words of wisdom? Angie Umbac: Like! Grew up on Charlie Chaplin movies. Loved those movies. My siblings and I walked funny for a long time.
Notstraight: Thanks Angie for taking the time to answer these quick questions.
