| In 2010, Dusty Balfour was anointed as The Imperial Court of Toronto´s 24th Empress, a coveted title in Toronto´s Drag Scene. In the year following, Dusty assisted in raising over $25,000 for local Toronto charities - Supporting our Youth (S.O.Y.) and People with AIDS Foundation (P.W.A.). Ms. Balfour has carved out a strong name for herself and is quickly claiming her place as a local legend-in-the-making.
Since her first day arriving on a pumpkin-chariot on a dark Halloween, Dusty has marvelled several of Church Street´s Drag Stages; including Woody´s, Cruise & Tango´s, and Toronto´s infamous Zelda´s: Restaurant & Bar. Dusty is recognized for her passionate work to create change for LGBTQ communities, and for her willingness to share the stage with a new generation of blooming artists aspiring to entertain.

I caught up with Dusty to ask her what's her fav LGTB movie and more.
Notstraight:What was the first LGTB movie you watched?
Dusty Balfour: A touch of Pink, actually on a first date ever with a guy.
Notstraight: What is your favorite genre for movies? Coming Out / Camp / Romance / Suspense / Action / Horror
Dusty Balfour: I love Rom Coms, Horror and Musicals
Notstraight: What is your favorite LGTB movie?
Dusty Balfour: Probably Latter Days
Notstraight: What is your favorite Hetrosexual movie?
Dusty Balfour: The Women
Notstraight: What past Pride event or experience is most memorable for you?
Dusty Balfour: It would be my first Pride volunteering with Supporting our Youth in the Fruit Loopz area, which showcased talent of young LGTB and their supporters
Notstraight: If you could have a luncheon with any two people (real of fictitious/ from any time period, dead or alive), which two people would you choose and Why?
Dusty Balfour: Horrible, only two? Bette Midler and Glenn Close (maybe a power lunch and add Catherine the Great?) I love comedy, musicals and powerful women who are a full spectrum of talent. Both of these ladies have played so many memorable roles, broadway, tv, movies that I would love to pick their brains on characters from Gypsy, Sunset Boulevard, First Wives Club to all the darker roles.
Notstraight: Which is your favorite time of the day? Are you a morning person or a night person?
Dusty Balfour: I love the quiet of the morning, the fresh air, but the time right before it gets dark, when the lights of a city start to flicker are the times I start to imagine.
Notstraight: What's your favorite song/artist of the moment?
Dusty Balfour: Adele, Someone like you, actually her entire new cd.
Notstraight: What's your favorite thing to do on a Sunday afternoon?
Dusty Balfour: Cook for my fiancee and spend time together, well when I step down as Empress.
Notstraight: Are you a cat or a dog lover?
Dusty Balfour: I love the personality of dogs, Corgis all the way!
Notstraight: Do you have a pet/s?
Dusty Balfour: My partner and I will be getting babies soon, yes.
Notstraight: Do you like to sing in the shower?
Dusty Balfour: All broadway, silly, but broadway is such a happy medium.
Notstraight: What was your first tattoo or piercing and where is it? What does it stand for?
Dusty Balfour: It was a ghecko, on my left ankle, to me it was complete rebellion, I was 17.
Notstraight: What was the first film/play you acted in?
Dusty Balfour: Oliver in elementary, I hate spirit gum now.
Notstraight: Do you like to sing karaoke?
Dusty Balfour: I like to, whether I am good or not is up for debate!
Notstraight: Would you rather have the power to be invisible or the power to read minds?
Dusty Balfour: Invisible, I love to watch and observe people, learning about others is fascinating, then again I would probably be found on Broadway 24/7 watching from the best seat in the house!
Notstraight: Do you like black and white movies? Why or why not?
Dusty Balfour: I adore old movies!! How can anyone not love the old musicals, the drama, the comedy, it was all so new and exciting to see mega MGM stars, hello Debbie Reynolds, Liz Taylor, Cyd Cherisse!
Notstraight: Do you have some coming out words of wisdom?
Dusty Balfour: Be strong, be yourself, try not to get lost in a ride that isnt your journey. Listen to your heart and gut, it might not always seem like the smoothest of rides, and you may lose some on the way, but what you gain in yourself is far more powerful.
Notstraight: Thanks Dusty for taking the time to answer these quick questions.
